This 49-year-old male wanted liposuction of the abdomen and flanks. The patient suffered from exercise and diet resistant fat in the abdominal region and flanks, even though he lived a very active lifestyle. The “love handle” areas really bothered him and so he looked into liposuction to improve his shape and waist.

The patient set up a consultation with Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Pousti in San Diego to discuss his options and make sure he as a good candidate for the procedure. During his initial consultation, Dr. Pousti found him to be an excellent candidate for liposuction considering he had very good skin elasticity in the proposed areas. He felt very comfortable with the Dr. and liked that he was able to review before and after pictures of patients who had had the same procedure. The risks and complications of the procedure, as well as the expected outcome and benefits were reviewed with the patient. He left the office feeling very well-informed and decided to proceed with the surgery.

At his pre-operative visit, before pictures were taken. The patient’s medical history is obtained and all of the necessary paperwork is completed including consent forms. Pre-operative and post-operative instructions were discussed with the patient and all of his questions were answered at this time. Post-operative medications including pain medications, antibiotics, anti-nausea meds were all given to the patient to be filled prior to his surgery date.

Dr. Pousti instructed patients to limit strenuous physical activities and to wear a compression garment that covers the areas on which liposuction is performed for at least 4 weeks to help minimize swelling. After surgery it is also very important for patients to massage any malleable areas to avoid any irregularities of the liposuction areas.

As you can see, he had a dramatic improvement, especially in the flank areas. In these pictures the patient is approximately 3 months post op. His final results may take up to a year to see. The contour continues to improve as well as the elasticity of the skin.

Dr. Pousti keeps a close eye on his patients and follow-up with them several times throughout the year to make sure they are healing correctly.
